Looks like Chris Gregoire found the money to outfit some sex offenders with GPS bracelets.
Here is the Seattle Times article.. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004068612_sexoffenders13m.html

More than 20 of the state's most violent sex offenders are tethered to tracking devices that document their locations within a half-block.
The devices are at the heart of Gov. Christine Gregoire's promise to keep people safe from sex predators. On Wednesday, the governor asked the state Legislature for $8.2 million to better monitor sex offenders.
Nearly $1 million would go toward purchasing the tracking sets for the Department of Corrections (DOC); About $5 million would pay for in-person visits of sex offenders by law enforcement.
But community corrections officers doubt whether the $1,500 devices — ankle bracelets, locator boxes designed to be strapped on people's belts and charging units — would ensure that sex offenders are abiding by the terms of their parole. In the two months that a dozen trackers have been used in Seattle, one offender has thrown the device away and another let the battery die — making the devices useless. Both offenders were arrested and held on suspicion of violations.
I fail to see how these tracking devices will keep people safe from predatory sex offenders. At best, these devices might provide a way to convict one of them after they reoffend, but stop them beforehand?? I'm skeptical.
I still think we need to move to the "Escape From North Dakota" Federal prison concept. Wall off North Dakota, and send these reprobates to live with each other whatever way they can...

you might say the GPS technology is a prevention-after-the-fact..
If one of those people breaks one of the rules, he going back into the clink with Jebediah and Farnsworth, potentional roomies with no brains.
Chief, I think these GPS bracelets are not going to protect any one who unless the person under the bracelet is willing to change their ways. One of the things the article says is a problem is that the homeless predators have a problem keeping the bracelet charged.

If you really want to discourage these sex predators in a meaningful way, let's increase the number of concealed carry permits in Washington. I guarantee you the dickie-wavers will think twice if they believe some sweet young thang might blow it clean off for him...
Ask Miami what a civilizing effect a properly armed populace can have on the local reprobates...concealed carry permits were widely credited with reducing violent carjackings in Dade County back in the 80s...
