A former fire chief who now helps manage The Amphitheater at Clark County said Wednesday that he'll run for county commissioner next year.

Brad Lothspeich of Felida will seek the Republican nomination to replace Commissioner Betty Sue Morris, who plans to retire in 2008.

"I miss public service," he said. "I miss dealing with folks."

Lothspeich, 55, called himself a "good listener" and said he's still figuring out where he stands on issues such as where to find $1 billion for a new bridge between Vancouver and Portland, how best to regulate growth and how to handle the Cowlitz tribe's casino proposal near La Center.

I am going to take a watch and hold pattern, lets see how things go.. Is the BoCC districted? or can all of us vote on this through-out the county..

Here in Clark County the candidate must live in one of the three county districts but the to be elected the vote is by all county residents not just district residents. Some other Counties have a "district only" way of doing things.

Buff, read the WA State RCW??? You guys make me laugh, I can dance around either candidate on any of the issues!! As for me supporting either, for get about it! I was told where my place is and that is the simple housewife that crawled out of the hole that I did. Just like high school, one should know your place in a society, but it's also fun sitting back doing what I do best and watching the fall out!! >:D

I want to see what either has to say before I make any further comments. Does either one have a campaign site?

You mean you two don't know these two's history?? I'm sorry but it's a part of the movers and shakers of CC and one needs to know whom they are dealing with and not take a wait see attitude?? So if one would compare Lothspeich with Ex Senator Denny Heck one wouldn't know what I would be talking about?? History????

Karma, when is the election for said person? Until two weeks before that election, why does it matter who is running?

I don't think they are even speaking about the election other than announcing they are running for "iron maidens" seat..

But like you said, each of the candidates has bones to bare from their own closets..

Any thing else I should be aware of that you might know that the Columbian archives don't have?

I may have been a sleep in Political class but ya know it was one of those classes that lead ya by the nose and tell you what they want you to learn? Just follow the money???

I only see him at reunions and that is enough for me!! What a trip to see some folks haven't changed since High School and I know Lothspeich will tell you I sure haven't, but again he really didn't get to know me then or now. Ya see I didn't have that silver spoon then or now and again it's about the history. Heck, just another pollitician when folks find out what you are really about, well you term is short!?

Maybe we need to start a "Draft Ginger Metcalf" movement...

Ed Bennett suggested we do that for Tim Leavitt just so there would be someone challenging him, but the idea fizzled early on...

As far as I am concerned this afternoon, I am going to wait until later near the election to worry about the two who are running for the seat. Unless of course some type of concrete news comes out that might sway my vote one way or the other.
