The Washington State Department of Transportation estimates that Interstate 5 will reopen Friday after dark.

The freeway was closed Monday over a 20-mile stretch of I-5 near Centralia by flooding water from the Chehalis River. The closure was between mileposts 68 and 88 in both directions.

"Tomorrow morning we're going to go out there and take a really good look at it," said Melanie Coon, information specialist with WSDOT. "But we are encouraged with how fast the water is receding."

Coon said that at milepost 80 at one point, water from the river rose to about 10 feet above the highway surface.

Let's hope this break in the action was enough to let the water recede overnight...

hehe Darn it.. you beat me to the punch! I forgot to list the 10 ft. level.

One of the things I didn't list was the governors underlings think there is some shoulder damage and may the outer lane of NorthBound I-5 might be damaged.

Also the way they think they might be ABLE to get get it open by Friday is by breaching one of the dikes to allow the flood waters to recede back through and into the river channel.. (Source Governor Gregoires underlings..)
