This is one of the few times I found some thing serious I could support and others here might be able to support the mayor on. Here is a copy of the press release for your own perusal.

Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard threw down the gauntlet to Portland Mayor Tom Potter this morning when he challenged him to see who can raise the most money for KPAM 860's Operation Santa Claus fundraiser for military families.
Pollard called in his challenge to the Bob Miller Show during Mayor Potter's telephone shift for this annual fundraiser. "In the name of fun and to help our local military families, I'm calling on all my military friends and Vancouver residents to support me in this effort," said Pollard.
The mayor who raises the most money for Operation Santa Claus will invite the less successful mayor to their City Council meeting to have the visiting (i.e. losing) mayor list the 15 best things about the other's city. Both cities televise their council meetings, so the visiting mayor will have the opportunity to list the attributes of the other mayor's city for the entire community to hear and see, Pollard noted.
Potter worked the phones at KPAM on Monday morning. Pollard will help the morning of December 6.
Operation Santa Claus is a fundraiser sponsored by KPAM 860 radio and Pamplin Media in partnership with the Salvation Army to assist military families from Oregon and Southwest Washington suffering financial hardship. Now in its fourth year, Operation Santa Claus has raised nearly $500,000 raised to assist financially distressed military families, including returning veterans, in areas such as car or rent payments.
To call in your donation, call 503.22-SANTA (503.227.2682) or 1-866-61-SANTA. Also, go to www.kpam.com and click on Operation Santa Claus.
