At 12:50 p.m. today, Gov. Chris Gregorie declared a statewide emergency due to the Pacific storm system that swept into the state Sunday. She called the Washington National Guard into active service to help local jurisdictions deal with the damage.
"The storm system is producing heavy rains, flooding, landslides, high winds and major road closures," the governor said. The storm is wreaking damage to homes, businesses, utilities and other public infrastructure, she said.
Gregoire directed the Washington State Military Department's Emergency Management Division to coordinate assistance to areas hit by the storm and to do "everything reasonably possible" to assist areas hit.
We have some real problems out there Boys and Girls....time to stay tuned to the radio, and I hope everyone has an emergency kit ready to go. Be prepared to hang tough for a day or two if needed.
Stay tuned...
