t’s a little known fact that an obscure Franciscan Monk, now only remembered as “St. Milo of the Pauch” earned a permanent indulgence from the Pope himself, for all sinners who yield to the temptation of chocolate. The formal Indulgence was actually purchased by the Di Medici Family during the Reanaissance, when they controlled the Papacy and were setting new standards for acceptable foodstuffs at the same time.
The chocolate indulgence was an afterthought that was attached to the formal Church finding that settled centuries of unfortunate disagreement, superstition, (and the occasional subsequent dismemberment...) over the consumption of the common tomahto, and represented an early victory for gourmands financed by numerous rulers of Florence (notably Lorenzo the Magnificent, patron of some of the most famous works of renaissance art), and later members of the French and English royalty.
Lucky for you; say a Hail Mary before you bite that brownie, and you’re home free on this one...
