"The same time spent on improving design/content of the website would probably reach more people in my opinion. Would like to be more encouraging, but think it is more important to be truthful to what I've observed."
This site represents a year long experiment in Local Politics, to see if the Internet can be used effectively to encourage local voters to educate themselves about issues that concern and affect us all.
Myself and two other individuals, had a conversation last year about the future of staying here in Clark County, or whether to abandon ship immediately and head to Greener (and less taxing) premises. We decided to stand up this website under certain conditions, for one year, to see what happened.
I did the research on what was available locally, and found a server service, here in Clark County, that had a very attractive package, that included an extensive on line software and support library, that was prepared to host Clarkblog. So with that information in hand, I got back with my one friend who has a better technical background than I do, and he not only told me to set up the service, but he agreed to be my Administrator as well. You know him as Louis Wu, and he runs things behind the scenes for us on the server. I take care of Editorial Content, and our third Principal Member only wanted to foot the bill. He agreed to unconditionally pay for this site for one year on the single requirement that the site remain free of charge to access.
So Clarkblog.org was born. I decided I wanted it to be a Team Blog, in order to avoid this place turning into an echo chamber. Others have always been welcome to come in here and talk freely about whatever they want, and every one still is...
I have heard comments about the content of this site, since the very first day we went live. I provide 99.9% of the content here, and I welcome anyone to come in here and challenge me on anything. The site is free, and you can provide any Content that you choose.
But to harangue me about the content I provide here, while steadfastly refusing to provide any of your own rings hollow. Again, everyone is welcome to come here and post what they will, and influence the content that way...
The appearance is the way it is, because we do not have the money to spend on a trendy hip website that has lots of expensive eye candy. The fact is that we do not charge anything for people to come here and post. We do not advertise the site because that costs money, and we do not take advertising because that opens the site up to accusations of influence from unknown special interest groups.
Think of the appearance of this site as proof of our vow of poverty. We don't need a lot of flashy graphics and expensive software that requires full time supervision and support to operate, in order to simply share the truth.
So my advice to the critics of our meager appearance here at Clarkblog is: Thank You! I'm glad that you noticed, and we will keep on with more of the same. I've always preferred a set of worn Levis over a pair of pressed Dress Slacks anyway...
And if you don't like the Content here, please feel free to log in, and start improving our content with some of your own.
