This is part news story, part science.. They are building a tire and other petroleum resin taking facility in Moxee near Yakima that will provide up to 60 people jobs.

They will turning all of the once unrecyclable or bad ideas from this item? (Remember the old surfacing idea north of Vancouver that caught fire on I-5?) And turn the tires and petroleum resin into steel and Diesel fuel, plus have a generator source to add to our electrical capacity.

Quote from the article in the Yakima Herald-Republic:

<b>"That was part of the pitch Wednesday when representatives of Organic Energy Conversion Co. of Tacoma made their case for city approval of an environmentally controversial plant that would convert solid tires to a variety of byproducts including diesel fuel and steel." </b>

One of the niche markets for old tires is for building athletic fields. They use the fround up rbber as a substrate that provides durability, resiliance, and drains extremely well.

I've seen other articles over the years that explore different uses for old tires, becasue tire disposal has been an issue since tires were invented. Lots of things can be done with old tires, and ianything beats letting them sit in enormous piles only to be set on fire by vandals. I don't recall where, but there have been tire fires over the years that burned for years becasue they are so difficult to extinguish.

That's also why they make good fuel for co-generation plants too.

Another good find...

Yip.. Any thing like my link above that provides a way to generate electricity, create more steel ingots and diesel fuel is an awesome environmental idea!
