SALEM, Ore. -- Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski said he is rethinking his previous position that the Oregon tax system needs a major overhaul.
Kulongoski told The Oregonian in an interview he would like a bigger state savings account and more flexibility for local governments. But he said figures show steady growing income from income taxes, lottery revenues and that signs of economic growth look adequate.
He noted that Oregon voters have rejected sales tax proposals nine times and show no sign of changing their minds.
But critics have said the new stance leaves Oregon unprepared to handle another recession.
**SCHNIPP**
Not surprizing, since Gubner Ted is under investigation right now about his knowledge of the Neil Goldschmidt case...
It will take a joint effort by a strong Oregon and a strong Washinington Governor, to get the tax system repaired in either State. The best way would be a joint effort, creating mutually supporting tax policies in both states, but I don't see that happening any time soon.
