I support our local ferret shelter as much as I can, and I just have to post this one.

Back in January, a breeder up in Ohio agreed to surrender almost 750 fertile breeder ferrets because he could no longer care for them. One of the local ferret shelters found out about this and unconditionally took them all.

The group that resuced these fuzzies has a site up and running with pictures attached. Here's a link to that site...

Here is a link to a YouTurbe video that is playing, that shows the conditions these animals were found in, in outside pens, in Ohio, In January of this year, in the snow. This makes me sick to my stomach to see this kind of thing and all I can do right now is send them some cash to help feed and clean the little critters. I understand they will give anumals up for adoption if you agree to neuter them.

Here is a link to the international Ferret Congress website as well since they are helping to spread word of this effort..

If you know of anyone who also raises ferrets, please link them to this article. Anyone who cares about ferrets like I do may want to consider sending whatever help you can.

thanks!

Sorry to hear that this type of stuff is still going on. But i do wish the shelter the best in their work to find homes for them. Best thing I can offer.

Updating...

Well, I am very pleased to report back on this effort, that the people at Ohio Ferret Rescue who started this mission have requested that people stop donating money. They have met their need and highly successful animal rescue ius complete. I still can't get over the pictures of how they found these ferrets in the snow earlier this year. I'm told that the breeder responsible had "dead ferrets stacked like cordwood" everywhere, and overall the site conditions were a horror show.

In all, the rescue ended up saving about 816 live ferrets of all ages. Over 600 of them have been parceled out to ferret shelters all over the nation for others to adopt. Oregon City's Ferret Shelter got 21 of the little fuzzbutts, and....welll....since I have the space, I agreed to adopt another one....

We ran down there last night, and I reserved a 4 month old female kit. She's going in for spaying this week, and once she recovers, I'll go pick her up. She already has an avid micro ID chip, first shots and a complete physical. All of these animals have been in quarantine for a while and have been tested to be sure they are free of several virulent diseases that can spread among ferrets.

Besides, our latest new girl is almost too rambunctious for our other two older ferrets. Miss Behavior is 8 months old, while the senior ferret is going on 6 and her sister is going on 3. Neither of them have the energy of the younger one, and the younger one weighs more then the two older ones put together! It's amazing how petite the two are, compared to Brun Hilde beside them. I think another kit, closer to her age and size will make a much better cagemates for each other.

In the interim though, the one that's arriving this week will go into temporary quarters till we can get her settled down, and evaluate her personality. I have a single cage for exactly that purpose, and I'll get it ready soon. I have a pen for them all to romp in, and we'll do some slow introductions later this week.

I think it's time for a dedicated ferret spot here at clarkblog too...

;D

My wife made me promise that four is enough...I agreed. Until it's time for five...

This means we will have 8 in the family boodle, counting the 4 my daughter and her boyfriend have between them...
