Once again, the Columbian is a day late and a dollar short. On August 19th the Seattle Times, (probably more liberal than the Columbian if that is possible) published an article that the “Junior Taxing Districts”, fire, port, library, schools ,, etc., (Also Known AS “lets by –pass the voters) got legislation. ESB 5498, passed that makes voter approved temporary tax levies permanent. Makes one wonder if the recently defeated and outrageous 132% port tax increase fell into that category. Or why the Columbian waited until 10 days after the vote to publish their information.
I do agree with the Columbian’s Editorial headline “TOO MUCH TO ASK”. Is it too much to ask that the only newspaper in town keep us informed and the Junior Port Taxing District make us aware that their Proposition 1 tax levy may have been covered by this new legislation? We pointed the Seattle Times article out to them on August 24th. Shame on them. You can read it at:

Anyway, The Columbian would have you believe that a “gremlin” caused the omission of language that would have stated that voter approved tax increases were temporary unless otherwise stated in the ballot. Gremlin my foot! The wording of that legislation was in my opinion deliberate. Hoping that the Attorney General and Governor will require a “Fix” is wishful thinking unless we speak out.. And, chastising Ed Orcutt because he sided with the taxpayers was probably done because he is a republican and that is what a liberal news media does best.
If it was indeed an error then all who voted for this outrageous attempt to dig deeper into our pockets without reading the legislation they voted for should be first taken to the woodshed and second voted out of office. We don’t need legislators who follow blindly the dictates of Lobbyist who are being paid by our with our hard earned tax dollars to get legislation passed that will allow them and others to dig deeper into our pockets.
As for being signed by Governor Chris, well she was either not reading that day or it was because she is a tax and spend Democrat.
Enough Said.
So much for being represented.
