Good afternoon,

I have repeatedly said that our taxes are TOO DAMN HIGH and a couple of interesting articles in the Wednesday Columbian and Port’s dog and pony show on CCTV give some insight as to WHY.

Business Section: “CLARK PUBLIC UTILITIES GIVES CHIEF A 4% RAISE”.

What a rip-off, the poor guy only makes $185,536.00 a year plus a 400.00 dollars a month car allowance. So why the pay raise? As his employer it would be nice to know what this guy does to give him a salary that is only about 10,000 a year less than the President of the United States. It couldn’t be because our utility rates have been reduced because of his untiring efforts. In that is the case why are they going up like a skyrocket. I got it; maybe it is because he was able to get the gas fired plant boondoggle that cost more money to produce electricity than it is sold for out of the public eye. By the way, the rumor mill has it that that plant was built to provide electrical power for light rail. How about that. And just think, converting his 100 hours of sick leave to vacation hours will provide him with the opportunity to take an extra 2 ˝ week vacation at taxpayer expense. I still can’t imagine what he does that is worth $186,000.00. If he is that good why do we
need commissioners?

Front Page: “SOME COUNTY SALARIES WILL SOON SURPASS $100,00.00:

Can you believe it! In these tight times with people being taxed out of their homes, losing their jobs, unable to pay their mortgages Belt tightening is increasing everyplace except the public sector. Maybe if they “the elected officials” learned how to manage our money better, privatized some of the task they are competing with the private sector for, they wouldn’t have to keep raising their salaries so that they can continue to enjoy a life that most people just dream about. It may be time for us, to put these rascals on a merit system and vote on whether or not our employees deserve a pay raise. Isn’t that what most employers get to do. Or maybe we should just vote them out of office. Ii is indeed time for a change.

CCTV Port Commissioners Meeting August 28th, 2007:

Port Commissioner Arch Miller, reported on the Port’s dues owed to the Washington Ports Association, it was in the neighborhood of some $64,000 a year and rising. Although Commissioner Wolfe mentioned that the voters had just sent the Port a message asking that the Port be more careful with their tax dollars, Commissioner Miller explained the Port’s Association does a lot of good things, the most notable being lobbying the state legislature. Would your believe that he (Arch Miller) was in favor of spending our hard earned tax dollars to pay a lobbyist to seek legislation that will result in the port being able to take more of our hard earned tax dollars, probably without a vote of the people. I think the vote was 3 – 0 in favor of giving the Ports Association the $64 thousand dollars.

Take a good hard look at your next utility bill and tax statement I am certain with that information and this public information you will then be able to better understand why about 50 + percent of what you earn is gobbled up by the tax collectors.
