One word makes a difference. You have to read every word of their editorials to understand what the Columbian Editorials are trying to say or who they are trying to protect.

In today’s editorial, “FIGHTING BACK” I found the wording in the last paragraph interesting. In response to VPD anti-gang ideas they wrote:

“But the city in recent years has not made a high priority of funding officer in high schools……..”

As a city resident, I don’t recall the citizens being asked their opinion when the City Council eliminated the Gang Task Force. I do believe that the editorial would have been more correct if it said:

“But the CITY COUNCIL, in recent years has not made a HIGH PRIORITY of funding officers in high schools………

But then their priorities are building bridges to nowhere, beautifying downtown and spending our hard earned tax dollars on Light Rail studies, etc. not crime.

The next shoe to drop will be “if we don’t raise taxes we are going to have to cut or not increase police and fire service.”

We have an opportunity in November to establish real priorities if you Vote for Charlie Stemper, Pat Campbell and Jerry Oliver
