The wife and I caught Mel Gibson's latest at Cinetopia this afternoon, and I was just stunned at how good it is. Yes, it is violent and bloody, but from what I have seen, it is a reasonably accurate depiction of Mayan society, and the blood drenched manner that their civilization collapsed.
This movie has some absolutely stunning cinematography, incredible sets, and some of the most complex and beautiful period costumes I've ever seen. There is an underlying story of family that is funny, horrifying, and moving all at the same time.
Forget what the media says about Mel Gibson. Go and see this movie; I dount you will find anything this worth the price of admission anywhere else this year...
Four Stars...
