What a blast! the turnout for the baking contest was excellent; there had to be at least 100 entries, with a lot of talent on display. some of the cake work was just amazing! The best part was that after the judging was complete, it was open season on the goodies, and nothing much survived after that.

Great job by the Optimists Club of Vancouver, and I hope they sponosr another contest like this soon.

Sure was a nice afternoon event. Could only stay about 1/2 hour because of my foot ulcer was acting up..

Sorry I missed you all but hope to see you around town during some other event.

And chief, hope you enjoyed the event. Missed the sampling contest! :-) Why do I wonder if Karma was going to come down and try to enter that?

She might have, it was pretty crowded down there today since the weather could not have been better. We enjoyed outselves thoroughly, and I must say "Thank You" to the City of Vancouver for putting this on, and doing a grand job of it. It was obvious that a lot of people did a lot of hard work to stage this event today, and they deserve to be commended for their efforts.

The Farmer's Market was doing a brisk business today as well, and the whole area kind of blended together.

There was some sort of Anime costume contest going on over in the Hilton today, and the park was packed like some sort of Japanese Fright Night...the proliferation of (decidedly fake) "Samurai swords" even intimidated most of the vagrants into beating a hasty retreat, (they were probably experiencing the early onset of the DT's and the related hallucinations anyway, so the Anime Superhero wannabes prolly scared the beJesus out of more than a few... ) and spat strategically placed gobs of something on the sidewalks for the most outlandish lookking teenies who were out walking barefoot, as the departed to the Nite and Day for another tall boy.....

;D

The farmer's market does a brisk business any sunny weekend. It's almost not worth the hassle trying to walk around the place.

I'm sorry I didn't make it out there today. I'm still wading through the post wedding mess. So many boxes, and new gadgets and left over centerpieces.... it's a never-ending swamp!

Chief: Really sorry I did not get a chance to stay that long. Did love some of the stuff.. For the first time since I moved here, going to add my Kudos to City of Vancouver for a job well done, instead of a long condemnation.

tefen: There will be other events to enjoy. You just enjoy the wife and all of those nice wedding gifts.

Hope to see one or both of you at a community event.

Thanks City of Vancouver for an enjoyable time.

It's Monday, and I still have no idea who won the contest on Saturday.

The City's representatives told us entrants that the columbian was going to publish the list of winners and the pictures, in the Sunday newspaper. That did not happen nor did it happen in today's paper either.

I have an inquiry out, but I'm sure there is some good excuse for reneging on the assurances that were given to the City. There's always a good excuse when it comes to the columbian...

Will it take them three weeks and an edition/add on in the neighbors section is where they will eventually place the whole thing?

What pisses me off is that they found a way to run Isolde Rafferty's snarky piece about all of the vagrants who were in the park in Sunday's paper, but nothing yet about that contest. It's now Tuesday morning, and still no word on the winners.

Typical.

Maybe when Lou surfs through clarkblog today looking for leads on stories, he'll stumble across this thread and catcha a clue...but I still wouldn't hold my breath till it happens if I were you...

Apparently it is going to take some time for the columbian to be able to process any of this information, so there is not telling when it will hit the paper. Hopefully it will be sometime before everyone forgets that there was a contest in the first place.

The City may have the list up on their website in a few days, and then maybe we can see who won.

Not a couple years until it lands finally in the neighbor section?
