;D Let's show a hand count is your yard green?? While showing my folks how much Clark County had changed since they moved away this weekend, my folks noted how bad folks have allowed their yards to become. I had to laugh as I told my folks they were lucky both my neighbors had their lawns mowed as one went 2 months and the other 4 weeks before they were turned in. It's a shame folks let them go and have no respect for others. I have had to use more chemicals this year due to all the weeds that these two have created for us here in my weed free yard. Yes, our yard is green as we know to scalp a yard will make it yellow faster. We take pride in our investment as we loose faith in the neighborhood we live in.

My yard is most definitely not green. And it hasn't been mowed in months... 'cause it hasn't grown in that long. On the plus side, there's not a weed in sight, I've done a great job at pulling them all out.
Next year I think I'm putting in an irrigation system and new sod. Even in the past when I've attempted to water daily the lawn stays pretty brown and dead. I don't know, maybe you've got some tips for me?

LOL, where do I start??? Do not put in sod and now is the time to kill the yard if you want new grass for next year. Come on out and walk on our golf course lawn!! We mow every 5 days and know how important it is to keep up one's property. PM me for the directions.

My front yard is in desperate need of de-thatching and areation; both of which are coming up in Spetember. As a result, my front yard has a distinct brown undercoat, but the backyard is as lush as ever, and barefoot thick. I credit that to good irrigation, and mine is built to give 100% of the grass 1/2 inch of water in 15 minutes. That's really all it needs per week.
I get aggressive with the weed control every year too, and I believe in better living through chemistry...I use weedkiller in the Spring, and once during the summer, because it's impossible to pull all of the weeds if you let the seeds germinate, and you can't stop your neighbor's dandilion seeds out of your grass. I also have Roundup and nuke everything that tries to grow in the concrete on sight.
And you can always rent a sod-cutter to remove the old grass from your lawn first. Once you pull all of that up, you can roto-till and amend the soil, install your sprinkler, level the yard, and sod it. Most people do that in the Spring, because the sod is actively growing, and will root withing a couple of days, and not so fast in the Fall.

Sorry Chief but that is why to much work for a new yard and a myth I'll sod bust fast. Several years ago one of those Chemical folks stopped by to look at our years and about fainted once we opened up the two gates. He was here to give me an estimate on areation, mind you we have only had it done twice in the 20 years we have been here and in reality it's not needed. There are other methods that are less expensive and honest work better!! But again that is why 'karma's park' is the lush place we keep and why a certain Commissioner made the statement the neighborhood would maintain the park, without looking at what the law states. But again she wouldn't commit to being there to work so what can one say???
