Surprise, Surprise, Surprise.

Today, the Port of Vancouver announced it has signed a deal with an auto importer to build an Auto Import Facility in Columbia Gateway. Anyone care to bet that the deal is contingent upon the passage of the Port’s outrageous 132% property tax increase.

According to my information, Gateway is about 544 acres. It should take, in addition to some filling, leveling, maybe even some dredge fill and permission from Mr. Paul King to prepare about 350 Acres that the Auto Facility will need.. With the two Ethanol Plants gobbling up approximately another 100 plus acres for their facilities, these three facilities will consume some 450 acres of the 544 acres of the Gateway property that the Port want to pay some 48 million dollars for. Won’t leave much room for other facilities will it.

Next lets assume that the Auto Facility will create a minimum of 1000 new jobs. That coupled with the 200 that the Ethanol plants will employ gives us a grand total of 1200 new jobs. A far cry from the 6000 that is being touted. Of those 1200 new jobs, an auto facility should require about 100 to 200 new Longshore position. .

With 200 people off loading auto carrying ships and another 200 making ethanol what will the other 800 be doing. Directing traffic or counting the tax dollars being picked from our pockets.

I personally find it strange that the port had little or no information to present to the voters during the Port Commissioners talks with the voter prior to the successful petition drive and all of a sudden, we have several deals contingent on the passage of the 132% property tax increase.

I wonder what kind of smoke and mirrors they use down there. In any event, they should change brands because the current smoke and mirrors being used is hard to swallow.

Don’t let these rascals tax you out of your home. Vote No of Prop #1.

Please pass this information on via word of mouth or email. We too could afford signs and fylers to get our message out if our taxes weren't so damn high.

Here we go again. I had thought that with all of the negative attention that I paid to the good Commander over his loose affiliation with the facts he spouts in these agit-prop opinion pieces of his, that the founder of the The Hate the Port Society had decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and had retired from the field.

Wrong!

Once again Commander Patella has launched one of his irrational and poorly written tirades against the Port of Vancouver, and this time he is almost completely detached from reality.

One more time Commander, from the top of the page, and with emphasis....The IDD Levy is to purchase the Alcoa/Evergreen Property, and pay for some of the rail improvements into the Port.

The IDD Levy has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Columbia Gateway Project!!

One of the refineries is being built by Western Malting on property the already occupy. the other one will be built on a completely separate parcel from the one that the auto processing facility will be built on by Rappaport Energy LLC.

Your argument about use of acerage is completely wrong and has absolutely no connection with reality or the facts at hand.

Your "assumptions" about what the employees will be doing is so far detached from the reality of the situation as to be laughable. It is clear that you did not bother to read either the story that the columbian ran on this subject, or the press release that the Port put out that explained this.

I find it fascinating that you are able to dismiss so casually, the work of a lot very highly qualified people that labored for 2 years to forge a simply outstanding plan for this facility with Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics Americas without any effort on your part to try to figure out even the most basic of information about what ever point it is you are babbling about.

And to even suggest that a potential vendor at the Port of Vancouver would be "Directing traffic or counting the tax dollars being picked from our pockets" is just childish, misinformed, and a down-right stupid thing for you to say in public.

I personally find it strange that the port had little or no information to present to the voters during the Port Commissioners talks with the voter prior to the successful petition drive and all of a sudden, we have several deals contingent on the passage of the 132% property tax increase.

The only thing that is strange Commander, is your selective memory about those Forums. In fact the Commissioners presented a lot of information, the only problem was your refusal to listen to any of it, and/or accept anyone's rational explanation about anything.

And once again folks, if the IDDL passes, it will add $0.45 (FORTY FIVE CENTS) PER $1000 OF VALUE TO THE TAX THE PORT IS ALREADY CHARGING YOU.

These letters of intent are real, and they are contingent upon the IDD LEvy because part of that money, as has been explained to you over and over again, is to build the essential rail access into the Port which will make the Columbia Gateway Project possible.

You definitely need to work on your badly fractured mixed metaphors too Commander....

There are no rascals Larry, they are not taxing anyone out of their homes, and like every other one of these raving moonbat pieces you love to pen, you have not presented on cogent argument for voting against anything.

So here you are Commander, per your request, I am passing this "information" of yours on, with my comments attached.

Stout Hearts.

From the article:
Larry Patella, a critic of the tax hike, said in an e-mail Tuesday that the announcements appear timed to influence the election. He is also skeptical about the job projections.

Since when does the columbian give print time to critics?

To be honest, I was on the fence, (though leaning toward a yeah vote) on the IDD levy. This kind of news about growth in the port sways me firmly in that direction.

$62 million in annual payroll. How can you expect that wouldn't be a benefit to the region and make the further prospects of the port worth some investment?

What article was that in?? link please??

I must revise my remarks on this. When I stated :

The IDD Levy has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Columbia Gateway Project!!

I should have said:

The IDD Levy has absolutely NOTHING to do WITH THE PURCHASE OF the Columbia Gateway Project!!

I would love to know what the The Hate the Port Society thinks about their founder being not only the most published letter writer that the columbian has, but how they feel about him being a recognized "source" for the columbian as well??

As much as he complains about the columbian, he seems to be one of their favorite blunt instruments.

So it goes...
