A third public forum to discuss eastside library options and plans has been called by the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, in the Rose Besserman Room in the C-TRAN Fisher's Landing Transit Center.

Project architects will present schematic diagrams of the building's floor plan and site layout, which were developed from staff input, community focus groups, written and email comments, and community input at two previous public meetings. Attendees will also have a chance to meet the project team, ask questions, submit comments and/or fill out comment forms that will be provided at the meeting.

Construction of the new 25,000 square-foot library, approved by voters last fall, is expected to begin early in 2008. The new library will be built near the Firstenburg Community Center on NE 136th Avenue. It will replace the 2,500 square-foot Cascade Park Library at 301 SW Hearthwood Avenue.

For further information about the new library, go to www.fvrl.org.

Saw it on CVTV and the main topics of discussion was:

1) Cost (Why doesn't it have more money than the Downtown Monstrosity..)

2) Why is there never enough parking? (they are going to only put 60+ additional spaces and they are going to be on the east side of Firstenburg Center.. Guess who's going to use those space?)

3) Why is there never enough parking at City of Vancouver places or associated government places?

Guess you might say, there are a lot of issues on that site..

There always have been a lot of issues there. First off, someone arbitrarily decided that building was the perfect size for Cascade Park, without any real analysis of what the need is. The proposal went to the ballot with only a chalk sketch and a bunch of promises, and it passed with flying colors.

yah, parking is going to be a bitch at the Firstenberg as soon as construction starts....

The RCW that have been pointed out to some of these folks that libraries and rec-centers should go hand in hand to save on tax dollars but they always fail to look at the over all problems that these centers cause or create. Come on out to Hazel Dell and the new LA Fitness Center there at 78th and I-5, what a zoo and whom ever decided that was the location it needed for a fitness center sure shot themselves in the foot. What a mess it's is now and you want to add Port traffic to this, pure gridlock. Thank that engineer's license now before they cause more problems!! That LA Fitness Center should of gone out past the WA research center, not in grid lock central. But again you have a re-distroy the Hazel Dell committee that is screwing up all the more!! What a disaster this will all be and you have East County that has been a disaster for a long while. It all goes back to that poorly thought up GMA zoning!!

Thank the developers Karma..

Because Steakburger is leaving in the next year and all of 78th street is under redevelopment efforts to clean up a lot of those buildings that sit empty, under utilitized or really look like they are from the 1980's..

Highway 99 has long need a lot of work and its finally getting the recongnition it should have deserved a long time ago. From 134th through Main Street to its south, the whole area needs work.

Don't agree with all the starbux (yes, I mean *bux) and the rest of the retail like it. There has got to be a way to promote local options and businesses all along that strip.

Buff there is more empty building in Hazel Dell then they even had, what a hoot on the redevelopment of this area. Heck they didn't do anything to improve or take care of the stormwater???

I get the e-mail Library updates, and I have not heard about anything lately, since the last round of Public planning sessions late last year.
