One just has to love this time of year when the summer bloomers start to take off. The first flush of rose blooms are now history but there is still plenty of color happening. Check this out!!

My asiatic lillies bloomed last month. Now they're come and gone. Any ideas why that might be if yours are just starting?

One of my neighbors has some of the best looking lilies this year that I have ever seen. the weather seems to be particilary good for them this season...

Very impressive, and I have a camera full myself, to post later today...

tefen, we have had them blooming for about a month now. It's about the location and the care they get as to when they bloom. These are in an open area with less sunand less water where as the earlier bloomers are in a protective area with more sun and heat. Love the yellow color, so brite!!

Come on Chief, let's see your bloomers!! I'm waiting to see all the petunias in bloom.

Ah, ours were on the south side of the house in full sun all day, and uhm... I must admit, I never watered 'em other than the rainfall.

Interestingly, the next stalk over in that picture.... just started blooming last week. But with only three little flowers and this heat, those are almost gone as well. Last year the pictured flower only had three blooms (its first year) so hopefully next year the other one (in its first year this year) will see more than three blooms as well.

Maybe next year is also the year I install a sprinkler system. This year it was a back fence.

So you don't fertilze these either?? The ones we have allowed to stay in the iris bed stay small and only one or two blooms, pure neglect.
The ones we fertilize and water have anywhere from 4 to 8 blooms. We have also found they like the richer soils than the clay we see.

Nope, nothin'. They're lucky I bothered to pull the weeds.

I'm getting better, I swear! This is my first house, and I've never really had an interest in gardening before, it's growing on me.

tefen, I'll tell you like I did Chief, come on out. We have what would be classified as a working garden where you can see what you usually see in nurseries in real life. Matter of fact one of my nursery friends stated this is better than any nursery around! Plus we like to give folks a one on one tour so that it can be explained why when and where. There is always something blooming and many species you don't find in nurseries. Let's just say we have the flare for the Tropicials here!! Yes some of these things can be grown in the PNW, one just needs to know how to care for them. Offer is open, just let me know. As I tell gardeners across the globe, I'm as close as email and photos would be helpful.
