I read with great interest in the morning Columbian, the story in section C about Pat Campbell running as a Democrat against Jim Dunn. It struck me that the Columbian got this one exactly right. It's time for Jim Dunn to go.
For weeks, I have labored trying to find some reason to vote for Jim Dunn, since he is a fellow Republican. But try as I have, I cannot find any good reason whatsoever to vote for Dunn. He's accomplished virtually nothing, and sure hasn't reached out to me in any way at all. I see his signs have sprouted a "TEAM 17" banner on them, but try as I might, I can't find a soul in Clark County who knows what the hell that means.
Pat Campbell is late to the race, but he is well known here in town. What draws me to him immediately is that he is the only local poitician the I know of, who actually opposed something on the Library Bond. In addition, his position that School levy and bond elections need to be decided by a simple "up or down" simple majority vote is something I would like to see a lot more discussion about. That issue has State Constitutional implications, and I've commented on that elsewhere. Pat Campbell wants to be the "Go-To" guy on issues like that, and I appreciate that sentiment. Considering that the Clark County Republican Party is AWOL, I don't blame campbell for switching parties.
I do think Pat is awfully anxious to get himself into the Government in any available position. He's run unsuccessfully for City Council, he's run as a Republican, and now he's a Democrat. Shape-Shifters make me nervous, and I would like to make sure that we are seeing the real Pat Campbell.
With that in mind, go take a good look at Pat's website.

I certainly don't agree with everything he says there, but I give Pat Campbell big points for having the stones to put what he thinks out in the open. At least he gives me something to consider, and a few good reasons to vote for him.
Jim Dunn as shown me absolutely nothing, except lots of reasons not to support him for another term. He needs to be replaced with someone who will actually go to Olympia and represent the interests of Clark County. Transportation issues are on the top of the heap, and Clark County is going to need a strong voice and a firm advocate to make sure that we get out needs met, like in the Columbia Crossing Project, and to make damned sure that the State doesn't get sucked into a massive transportation fiasco in Seattle that could rival Boston's "Big Dig" for inefficiency and cost over-runs. I'm not sure that Dunn even knows that the CCP is an issue.
I'm sending Pat Campbell an invitation to come over here, and weigh in on the same threads that Jim Moeller has. I hope he takes me up on that offer. In the interim, please take a hard look at Pat for State Representative.
