I read with great interest in the morning Columbian, the story in section C about Pat Campbell running as a Democrat against Jim Dunn. It struck me that the Columbian got this one exactly right. It's time for Jim Dunn to go.

For weeks, I have labored trying to find some reason to vote for Jim Dunn, since he is a fellow Republican. But try as I have, I cannot find any good reason whatsoever to vote for Dunn. He's accomplished virtually nothing, and sure hasn't reached out to me in any way at all. I see his signs have sprouted a "TEAM 17" banner on them, but try as I might, I can't find a soul in Clark County who knows what the hell that means.

Pat Campbell is late to the race, but he is well known here in town. What draws me to him immediately is that he is the only local poitician the I know of, who actually opposed something on the Library Bond. In addition, his position that School levy and bond elections need to be decided by a simple "up or down" simple majority vote is something I would like to see a lot more discussion about. That issue has State Constitutional implications, and I've commented on that elsewhere. Pat Campbell wants to be the "Go-To" guy on issues like that, and I appreciate that sentiment. Considering that the Clark County Republican Party is AWOL, I don't blame campbell for switching parties.

I do think Pat is awfully anxious to get himself into the Government in any available position. He's run unsuccessfully for City Council, he's run as a Republican, and now he's a Democrat. Shape-Shifters make me nervous, and I would like to make sure that we are seeing the real Pat Campbell.

With that in mind, go take a good look at Pat's website.

I certainly don't agree with everything he says there, but I give Pat Campbell big points for having the stones to put what he thinks out in the open. At least he gives me something to consider, and a few good reasons to vote for him.

Jim Dunn as shown me absolutely nothing, except lots of reasons not to support him for another term. He needs to be replaced with someone who will actually go to Olympia and represent the interests of Clark County. Transportation issues are on the top of the heap, and Clark County is going to need a strong voice and a firm advocate to make sure that we get out needs met, like in the Columbia Crossing Project, and to make damned sure that the State doesn't get sucked into a massive transportation fiasco in Seattle that could rival Boston's "Big Dig" for inefficiency and cost over-runs. I'm not sure that Dunn even knows that the CCP is an issue.

I'm sending Pat Campbell an invitation to come over here, and weigh in on the same threads that Jim Moeller has. I hope he takes me up on that offer. In the interim, please take a hard look at Pat for State Representative.

Thanks for the post and the traffic it is generating to my web site.* What is most important to me is that folks who disagree with my positons describe to me their disagreement so I can learn from them.* Also, I have folks asking about positions I haven't posted.* If they have something to do with local politics, I'll add those to the site.* If they are more of a national nature, I'll reply but not post the issue due to space concerns.* Although my phone # is posted on the site, I'm often not here to answer it so it will go to the message recorder.* I should be in a position to give out my cell# if I win the general election.* For now e-mail is very cost effective.* If you would like to help this campaign, let others in the 17th know about our web site, www.patservesus.com .* On the home page - at the very bottom- is a printable handout you can use.* Regards, Pat

Right on page C-1 of this morning's "Pravda"...

"Dunn chided in Web slip"

It seems that we have yet another terribly unfortunate campaign error from Team 17. It seems that that Dunn is playing games with his legislative website and his campaign website. I don't know all of the details, and I don't WANT to know all of the details. All I need to know is that this is yet another reason why Jim Dunn needs to be forcibly removed from the public teat in Olympia.

Frankly I can't decide if Dunn is merely incompetent or just a simpleton who cannot figure out the finer points of the Law. Either way he has absolutely no business in public office.

Elect Pat Campbell.

Just do it.

First, that's just not true. Rep. Dunn has accomplished a lot! A few examples from the past session:
1. salary increment increases for part-time faculty of community and technical colleges
2. a study of ways to reduce the costs and burdens of adoption
3. home heating assistance for low income and elderly
4. tax credits for the semi conductor industry
5. tougher penalties for child rapists...

Chief, I assume you haven't spent any time in Olympia, or you would know that the Majority Party controls the agenda, that means if you are not a Democrat the likeliness of getting a bill passed is very small. Jim was able to get companion bills passed (that means a bill which is the exact same as his but that originates in the Senate) and he was able to get his bills passed as bills sponsored by Democrats! These actions are a result of a skilled-politically savvy minority party player. Rep. Dunn is no simpleton, he may be fat, slow, and very laid back- but he gets much done considering the situation.

You must not get out much, Team 17 is obvious. Benton, Dunn, and Harris will represent East Clark County as a Team.

I will be gracious and admit defeat, since Jim Dunn has managed to squeak out a victory at the last minute over Pat Campbell. With that, every single flake of my political Wheaties have been officially peed upon...Pat, thanks for the effort. I only wish you had started earlier, and opposed Jim Dunn in the Primary.

And actually I do get out quite a bit, and that is the first explanation that anyone I know has heard about what "Team 17" is and who it represents. When those fancy yellow signs first popped up, nobody I know knew what that meant and I talk to a lot of people...

I would submit that "Team 17" needs to get out a little more on the East Side of Vancouver. Believe me that there is a lot of work to be done up on this end of town, and consistently leaving thousands of ballots on the table is not my idea of Leadership from a political candidate.

I'm still waiting to hear just where the hell anyone from this much daunted "Team" was during the Primary and Special Election in September. If the Clark County Republican Party had bothered with even a modest get-out-the-vote effort, that Library Bond would have had no chance of going through. As it was, CCRP surrendered to the Liberals who pushed that badly flawed bond measure through with just a little over 13,000 votes out of 67,000 eligible ballots. The Republicans were AWOL.

But I guess it was more important for Dunn to bankroll that warchest of his instead of spreading some of that campaign money around for the betterment of the party. Considering how close Dunn just came to being expunged from Olympia, holding onto that cash was probably prudent to ensure that Dunn could still eat while (potentially) unemployed...

There is no joy in Muddville...

Hey Pat! Merry Christmas!

I know you cruise by now and then, and I hear you are a big fan of Light rail. Please feel free to weigh in on that subject and lend your voice to the discussion. Who knows, maybe you are the guy who can sell us Naysayers on this, and convice us it's really a good idea...

I'll allow that it is possible to do so, if anyone cares to try...

I'm no longer a big fan of light rail. I think C-tran can be configured to take care of the problem more efficiently and parsimoniously. My guess is a lot of the to do about Fourth Plain revitalization was to prepare the area for the big boys to buy up properties in anticipation of the light rail route to be. During my visit to a similar sized city in Korea, I saw that bus and taxi services handled the needs, including those of the many school children, quite well. Light rail/subway works in Seoul where millions of people live shoulder to shoulder.

Pat, I agree!! Why isn't a express bus from both down town, east county and 134th Avenue not used to get folks to the expo center??? I hear that was used for the winter period due to weather and it was faster than staying on the bus all the way down town Portland?? We need to utlize what we have and not spend our great grandbabies money.

Welcome back Pat, and congradulations on being the first "Politician" so to speak, and I mean no disrespect in using that term, to have the guts to stand up and oppose Light Rail for any reason. Everyone else in local politics has already been assimilated, (like Royce Pollard and Steve Stuart) or is still hiding in the tall grass (Like Tim Leavitt and the rest of City Council...).

Its refreshing to see!!

;D
