This guide is designed for newly-elected
port commissioners or someone
considering serving as a commissioner
for one of Washington’s 76 public port
districts.

As a port commissioner, you are
responsible for the current operations
and future direction of your port. This
public policy task is complex and
challenging and requires considerable
leadership skill.

The Washington Public Ports
Association’s Commissioners’
Resource Guide provides an overview
and basic information about the
responsibilities of a port commissioner
and discusses the importance of
efficient and effective port management.

It also provides information on ports in
general, port authority, management and
techniques you can use to improve your
performance as a port commissioner.
