There's a piece in the Oregonian today about a study conducted at U of O which indicates that people get pleasure out of paying taxes.
Now what's wrong with the study?
The only tested 19 people.
They only tested females.
They told them the money was going to a food bank.
<i>
"We've shown that in principle you can devise tax situations where people feel good about giving," Mayr said. In real life, however, he pointed out that perceptions of contributing to the public good through taxes may be too far removed. People subjected to taxes may consider their obligation unfair or object to their government's choices for spending the tax money.
</i>
Yeah no kidding. So the key to taxing people is to only tax women for altruistic reasons?
I'd like to see them run this again where there were men in the mix. And where the subjects were sometimes told the money was going to causes like "sewer repair", "public servant wages" and cases where they weren't told at all where it's going.
