The Soapbox is the place where you may come, erect your personal soapbox, and make a speech (of sorts) on whatever topic you choose. As long as you remain in compliance with the rules you agreed to when you signed up here, have at it. A couple of warnings are in order.

** Bring your own platform. We are just providing you a place to set it up. Now if you build a rickety soapbox, don't be surprised if someone comes along and kicks your slats loose.

** Be prepared to defend your remarks. You may exercise your free speech here, and we reserve the right to challenge any shaky or unsupported remarks you might make. Kicking of slats is encouraged, beating each other over the head with those slats will be frowned upon.

** Links to reputable resources and references on the web are highly encouraged, and preferred. Be careful of what you select as your "reputable" source though. Anything coming from questionable sources cast doubt on your credibility and will cost you Karma points.

** Keep it civil. That goes for the one on the soapbox, and the one kicking in the slats. It is perfectly OK to challenge an idea, and decidedly NOT OK to attack an individual under any circumstances. Chief and I agree that reasonable men and women may disagree about important topics, but still remain mature enough to respect one another. Personal attacks will be dealt with strongly.

** Profanity, crudity, vulgarity, and unpleasantness are simply not going to be tolerated. If a Moderator warns you, they mean it. I will back a Moderator's decision 100 percent of the time. I want them to have a sensitive trigger finger until we have the board established. The rule here is warn once, then act. In some cases there may be no warning at all. If there is ever a problem here with any poster, notify me or or the Senior Moderator, Chief, immediately.

** I believe in the use of the word filter to prevent Moderation problems. I have no say over editorial content at this board, but the use of inflammatory language is under my scrutiny. We have and are using the capability in this system to prevent the publication of certain words and phrases. So if you see **** then you know you just chose poorly in your selection of words. That list will grow as required and its use is not a matter that will be negotiated.

Now that we have the official notices out of the way, go ahead and pull out that essay you wrote, or that letter to the Editor that never got published, and post it in here. If you would rather a piece be posted and locked, without comment, those will be considered on a case by case basis.
