I am announcing this evening that www.clarkblog.org is sponsoring a formal Debate among Incumbent Vancouver City Council members Tim Leavitt, Larry Smith, and Dan Tonkovich; and their two challengers Pat Campbell and Charlie Stemper.
Councilmen Tim Leavitt and Larry Smith have enthusiastically agreed to the debate, while no word has yet been forthcoming from the Tonkovich camp. Both Pat campbell and Charlie Stemper have agreed to the debate.
The debate will be held on Wednesday August 15th, 2007 at the Firstenberg Center. Admission will be free, and attendance is strongly encouraged. The public will be encouraged to submit potential questions for the candidates to the Moderator, who will select and ask the questions. The debate will begin at 7:00 sharp and the doors will open at 6:00. We anticipate that the debate will last about 90 minutes.
The process of selecting a Moderator for the debate is underway, and you can expect an announcement about that in the near future.
This will be the first time such an event has been hosted at the Firstenberg Center, and I hope that it will be one that they can be proud of and will be willing to do again at some point in the future.
Be on the lookout for flyers and other announcements and reminders about this event as the time draws near.
