Fares going up on Snohomish County's Community Transit

A weak economy that is driving down revenues from sales taxes and higher fuel bills will mean riders of Snohomish County's Community transit will have to pay more beginning Oct. 1.
Adult local fares will go up by 25 cents, adult commuter fares to and from south Snohomish County will go up 50 cents and adult commuter fares for the northern and eastern part of the county will go up 75 cents.
Dial-A-Ride Transportation (DART) fares will be up 25 cents. Vanpool fares will be adjusted based on mileage and number of passengers.
Senior fares will not increase.
The transit system's board approved the fare increases Thursday.
Bus riders in King County will also see increases. King County Metro had planned a 25-cent increase on Oct. 1, but officials said recently they may have to raises fares higher than that.
