I called the Vancouver Fire Department to see why their flags are at half-mast.

The Fire Chief of Federal Way, WA died last week fighting the CA wild fires. Dan Packer was 49 years old. There was a flareup on a fireline and his emergency tent did not save him.

The day before Mr. Packer died, another WA firefighter died fighting a wildfire in Oregon. Andrew Palmer was 18 on his first day on the line. He was killed by a falling tree.

The flags will be dipped in reverence until after Mr. Packer's funeral on Thursday.

I just heard about this one. I just got back from a trip through Port Townsend more than 3 weeks ago.

If I remember watching the news, there were some more firefighters that died a day or two later that were from the Pacific NW? (not related to the Port Townsend Chief or guy.)
