It was 48 degrees this morning when I went to get my newspaper.

Here we are at the end of July and it's still like late Spring outside most mornings. I saw my next door neighbor this morning, and she was getting ready to head to the Fairgrounds with her husband. Their church has a booth at the fair that sells pies, and they always help peel peaches and make the pies.

This week the group has been out in vain in Clark County looking for ripe peaches, and there are none to be found, (at least not in quantities for Fairgrounds Peach Pies), so this year the church is getting their fruit from out of state at the local produce markets. The fruit here in the County simply isn't ripe yet.

I heard the other day that by this time of year in Anchorage, Alaska, the average temperature should have been above 65 degrees on about 48 days by now. As of last week, only 6 days have been above 65 so far this year...

How many years has it been since the Columbia River froze solid in the Winter??

I'm ordering an extra cord of firewood this Fall...

Well, might have to get two extra cords, just in case there is a cold fall, spring and winter all mixed into one.

It was near the 40's and raining this morning.up here in Bellingham.. So your in good company with people that have stoves in their homes to keep warm.

Updating...

This week I've been scarce as we gambled that the temperature would stay warm enough at night for paint to dry, and I've had a sprayer or a brush in my hand for several days now.

Thankfully the weather has been cooperative and the paint appears to be drying normally. It was touch and go for a while, and we were not sure that it would ever warm up enough for painting before the snow flew...

Well I was worrying if the grass was going to become green or was it going to be another two months of brown grass...

Either way, I've been busy doing a heck of a lot of things. So your keeping up with house and artwork with a spray gun? Sounds so much fun in 90+ degree heat.

I expect that tomorrow may be the last day in the 80's before the rain comes back to haunt us for a few more weeks.

It's hardly art, but it is rewarding.

I had help yesterday and the two of us got a lot of painting done. I sprayed the siding white, and we're hand-painting all the trim. This is really the last step in the project of replacing all of the windows and doors in the house that I started a couple of years ago. Last summer I replaced the large picture window in the living room, and by the time I finished the inside trim, we were into the Fall, and that was no time to paint outside.

So this year I booted the painting job to the top of the list and believe me, I'm glad to have this one almost behind me...

On Wednesday, the snow level in the Washington Cascades is predicted to drop to 6000 feet. They are calling for near blizzard conditions on Mt. Hood as well. We could end up with about half an inch of rain out of a North Pacific storm that is moving pretty far south for this time of year.

The weatherman sez it will warm back up by the weekend, but only into the low eighties.

SNOW this early? Wow.... :-)

I think you need to go over to Portland and ask one of the Earth-Firsties why its snowing right now in the Cascades?
