The state Senate will meet in Vancouver for the first time on Sept. 4 and 5.
Secretary of the Senate Thomas Hoemann confirmed Friday that the full Senate will hold its September “Assembly Days” at the Hilton Vancouver Washington.
Chairmen of Senate committees have been asked to schedule hearings on issues of interest to Vancouver and Clark County, Hoemann said.
Two years ago, the Senate met in Spokane and focused on issues relevant to that part of the state. “When we were in Spokane, people did a number of tours,” he said. “I think the members found it interesting.”
Senators Don Benton, R-Vancouver, and Craig Pridemore, D-Vancouver, were instrumental in bringing the 49-member legislative body to the city.
Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard could not be reached for comment. In a statement, he said: “This is a great opportunity to showcase Vancouver and to show members of the Senate what we’ve done with some of the tools and resources that they’ve given us and some of the strategic investments they’ve made in our community.”
Hoemann said the Hilton was giving the Senate a “favorable rate” for the two-day event.
“When we were in Spokane it cost $25,000 to $27,000,” he said. “We expect this hotel to be considerably less expensive.”

The only bad news here is that they have scheduled it for the Hilton. After attending events like the CRCP Task Force at the Hilton, I can't think of a worse place to hold something like this. The ballroom they use is big enough for the participants to meet, but certainly isn't conducive to the Public who want to attend.
