City of Vancouver phones and data lines are not working in some city offices. Calls to the city may result in a busy signal. A bundle of Qwest cables to City Hall was cut accidentally due to construction in the area. The city's Information Technology department is working with Qwest to determine the scope of the problem and the estimated time to repair the circuits.

Some contractor failed to call 1-Miss-Utility before they dug. If they hit the right data cable, it could be quite expensive to fix, so let's hope they were insured...

Some one hit the 1-800-schmuck line to city hall?

though this is a serious question and wonderment. Why in this day and age of telecommunications and digging, why do these guys continue to hit Fiber optic lines?

I understand that once in awhile it might be an accident, but to city hall?

I ahve got to wonder how many emergency/911 connections through Qwest that are connected to city hall for emergency needs were just taken down with one swipe of a dig.

Though I bet everyone could have been sent home for the day because no customers could be serviced, no permits could be issued or operators could switch important calls to the right department at the City.

Well its back to the drawing board. And some one is going to pay dearly for not calling the local PUC designate commission and committee to get a free spray paint job to show them where the critical cables, Fiber and other interesting looking pipes are..

Too bad they didn't hit a sewer main, now that would have been interesting doin's near there.
