June 13, 2008 --

Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of "Meet the Press," has died after collapsing at NBC's Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old.

Russert, who rose from the inside world of politics where he was former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo's press secretary and one-time chief of staff to the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was able to successfully cross over to political journalism and rise to become one of its leading lights.

In his role as host of the seminal Sunday morning political program "Meet the Press" - which he took over in 1991 - he became renowned for his hard-nosed interviews where he frequently cornered some of Washington's cagiest political figures with tough questions.

THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY. PLEASE REFRESH FOR UPDATES.

Tom Brokaw conducted a very good remembrance edition of Meet the Press this morning. Instead of the regular interviews, it was all about remembering Tim Russert.

I think a lot of people in media were terribly shocked by his death. 58 is very young to have a fatal heart attack.

DOH! I missed all of it and television is packed up...

Well I guess there was a good reason I didn't see it until I got back. Well I'll be watching the news sites for more information.

Your currect, that age is too young to die for a heart attack..

Some thing that is heard off this link that I never knew Tim espoused exceptionally well and I personally cannot stand is walking into a room prepared for hours, days or months and someone comes into room and tries to skate by the issues or spews unintelligible commentary.

Come prepared for some thing because if you don't, your neighbors, constituents, friends, family, business associates or competitors will wipe you off the map.

Thanks Tim for the wonderful Sundays and half way decent political chatter.

Here is the link with the 55 minute MTP tribute with Tom Brokaw hosting and some of his past guests and commentary in memoriam at meet the press headquarters In washington dc.
