VANCOUVER, Wash. – American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has again recognized the Port of Vancouver for its work in communication within the industry and within its community.

The Port of Vancouver USA has been honored with an Award of Excellence for its electronic holiday card from 2007, and an Honorable Mention for its community newsletter, “Community Re:Port,” as a result of the 2008 AAPA Communications Awards Competition.

Awards will be formally presented at the AAPA National Conference September 24, in Anchorage, Alaska.

“We couldn’t be happier with the communications work produced by our public affairs team, and the affirmation of its quality with these awards,” said the port’s Executive Director Larry Paulson. “It is great work done by the whole team. On behalf of our entire staff, and the community, we are very proud to have been given these awards.”

In 2007, the Port of Vancouver worked with its marketing agency, Coates Kokes of Portland, to create an electronic holiday greeting card that could be delivered via email or the World Wide Web to any and all recipients from any port employee. The electronic card not only saved the port money on postage and printing, but also played a key role in the port’s sustainability efforts by serving as a “green” holiday card.

The card drew rave reviews from recipients, and was very popular with those who saw it. Screen grabs of the animated card are included with this release, and a link to see the card “in action” is available at, www.happyholidaysfromportvanusa.com.

Community Re:Port, the port’s community newsletter that is delivered to all households in the Vancouver Port District three times a year, merited an Honorable Mention award for the first time.

Sue Groth, who manages the newsletter throughout the year, has made significant, yet gradual, changes to the readability, design and look of the newsletter over the last 15 months. Her work was recognized with this year’s entry, and judging. The most recent newsletter is posted online at: www.portvanusa.com/news/POV_Spring08_NL.pdf.

The Port of Vancouver has had good results in the AAPA Communications Awards Competition over recent years. In 2006 the port was given an Honorable Mention award for its overall communications campaign, and followed that up in 2007 with an Award of Merit for its community advertising campaign. With its award in 2007, Vancouver was one of just two ports nationally to be recognized for their advertising campaigns.

Now after that last serious gaff and screw up, I'd like to applaud the Port of Vanouver myself.

I did love that card that I got in email myself.
