The Cowlitz Indian Tribe would replace revenue lost by the city of La Center for at least 10 years, according to a final federal study on the tribe’s casino plan.

A preliminary version of the casino report, circulated to local governments in March 2007, said that La Center was so flush with cash that it could afford to lose two-thirds of its gambling taxes generated by four nontribal cardrooms.

But the final environmental impact statement, released today, says the tribe would compensate La Center for lost revenues.

If projections that La Center would lose 66 percent of its gambling revenue upon full buildout of a 134,150-square-foot casino are accurate, the amount provided by the tribe could easily exceed $30 million over 10 years.
