The Washington State Labor Council, the largest coalition of AFL-CIO-affiliated labor unions in the state, has endorsed Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, in his campaign for re-election to the 17th District Senate seat.
Benton said in a statement that he had been endorsed by individual unions in past elections but had never before received an endorsement from the entire state council.
“I’m thrilled to have the support of working families in Washington, and I always do my best to look out for them in the Legislature,” he said.
The Clark County Central Labor Council, which includes representatives from the longshoreman, carpenters, teamsters, painters, bakers, firefighters, state employees and other labor unions, voted unanimously last week to recommend Benton’s endorsement to the state labor convention.
Benton has often voted with organized labor. This year, he supported an industrial injury bill that allows workers injured on the job to continue to receive their benefits during the appeals process when the employer chooses to appeal an employee injury claim.
