I'm gambling we wont have a hard frost in the next 3 weeks or so, and sprung for 5 flats of annuals today. I snagged 2 trays of mixes portulaca (rose moss) for 2 large deck pts; and we're starting with three trays of petunias for the back beds. We're foregoing marigolds and zinnias this year for mass plantings of hummingburd-friendlies this year. We'll see if three trays is enough for the hot beds. The more ya crowd these, the better they like it.

July ought to be pretty spectacular here...

;D

I de-winterized my sprinklers today, and got them all fired up again, especially for the pots and beds our back.

Speaking of sprinklers, I got my water bill today, and in it was the "City Flier". On the back page it tells us that we are required to have a City Approved annual inspection of our back flow preventers. I wasn't aware of that requirement until today, and I'm betting you didn't either...and I won't be in any big hurry to call them either; especially if my equipment is working properly.

I'll scan that little gem later for presentation...

I hear ya, we spent the day in the gardens and have tilled the veggie beds.

yah!! Five flats later...and the back bed is planted out. Should do well since it's nice and sunny in the morning but shaded in the heat of the day. I got the micro-drip sprinklers all installed too. That
s a mini-project unto itself, but I hope to reap lower water bills and healtheir plants all summer this year.

My peas are really kicking in with the warm sunny days. They're knee high now and should start flowering in the next week or so...O have a bunch of young carrots and some pretty decent leaf lettuce going right now in a part of the patio bed. Once the peas are done, that whole bed is going to get assorted jumbo sunflowers; that should be pretty spectacular later this year...

What a great weekend!! Got the garden all tilled with half of it planted already. Moved the hostas that were being up rooted by the roots of the cypress tree and feed all the garden beds. This has got to be the second favorite time of the year here, lots in bloom and to see things growing, what fun!! We are awaiting for the next rain to fill up those water barrels as I'm already getting tired of dragging out the hoses. I have one more bed to plant and watching the seedlings in the greenhouse take off. We have a
couple of those micro-drip systems but haven't found the time to install, I guess that will have to go on the next 'Honey Do' list?

The micro-drip systems are great, but it takes a while to get them installed and tuned in. I've been working on mine in the back since last year, and I'm finally getting close to being satisfied with it. They will save you water, there's no doubt about that....
