This was my "Favorite" read of the night. It includes a link to the PDC website of a map of each county and how much was donated to each campaign for governor. Hope you all enjoy!

OLYMPIA — Geographically speaking, it appears very little has changed in Washington's race for governor.

A new online campaign-finance-tracking tool suggests that Republican Dino Rossi remains more popular — at least in terms of campaign donations — across a vast swatch of rural and suburban Washington. But that support is more than offset by Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire's strong support in more urban and affluent areas.

That's pretty much how the votes shook out in 2004, when Gregoire beat Rossi by a meager 133 votes despite winning only eight of Washington's 39 counties.

The state Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) Thursday launched the new tracking tool, an interactive map that enables users to get county-by-county breakdowns of the money raised by Gregoire and Rossi.

"This is a high-profile race," said PDC spokesman Doug Ellis. "People want to know where the money's coming from ... this is an easy way to figure that out."

To find the map, go to www.pdc.wa.gov and look for the gubernatorial money map.

Here's how it works: Start by clicking on a particular candidate's name, then move your cursor across the map. As you drag across each county, it shows how much money that candidate has raised so far in that county.

You can also click on the smaller map of the United States to see how much money each candidate has raised from out of state.

The site also lets you go back and see the breakdowns for the 2000 and 2004 gubernatorial races.

In 2004, Gregoire and Rossi together raised a record $12.6 million. They are on pace to easily surpass that mark. As of last month, the two had already raised nearly $8.5 million total.

Gregoire, who began soliciting campaign donations more than two years before Rossi entered the race, has raised about $852,000 more than him.

But Rossi's money has come from a much broader cross-section of the state. He has raised more than Gregoire in 28 of the state's 39 counties.

Nearly 45 percent of Gregoire's money has come from King County, the state's most populous county.

The new PDC map is currently being updated monthly, to coincide with campaign-finance reporting deadlines. But starting in June, candidates will be required to start reporting weekly.

Ellis said the agency plans to eventually provide similar interactive maps for other statewide races and perhaps even local legislative races."
