I am restarting the No Loot Rail sign campaign here at Clarkblog.org, because it seems that I am the last person in Clark County who has tried to show an even approach to what is going on with the Project. I see no further need for pretend objectivity on this.
Back in September of 2006 when we first stood Clarkblog.org up, one of the prime goals was to fairly and evenly try to evaluate what was going on with the Columbia Crossing Project. I had some faint, naive hope that there was a chance for a fair and balanced look at what was being proposed.
At the time, I deliberately ignored all of the people who were already accusing the Project of pursuing an agenda of getting Light Rail into Vancouver, but facts rapidly proved that chain of though to be correct. A year and a half later, and the Columbia Crossing Project truly has become "Light Rail or Nothing".
It's time to renew the stand I took last year in support of building a new bridge for Interstate 5, but without the Light Rail. The image above is available in a yard sign for absolutely no cost. I have about 150 or so that I would like to start spreading around again, because there is no time to spare if light rail into Clark County is to be defeated once and for all.
It's also an unfortunate fact that the powerful pro-Loot Rail interests both in and out of Clark County will see the entire project shut down, instead of even considering a compromise that might see the bridge get built. I still hold out some slim hope that reason will prevail, and something useful salvaged from the mess at the Columbia Crossing Project, but I give that slim odds of happening at this point.
The signs direct people to this website, where I hope they can find good information and informed discussion about this issue. We are going to need informed voters to decide whatever ballot measures are put in front of us. The pressure to approve Loot Rail will be relentless from Portland and Vancouver special interests, so it's not too soon to renew the campaign to push back.
If you would like a sign, please drop me a PM or an e-mail.
