I have not been hiding out this week, just engaged in a bit of home repair. The 8' x 5' picture window in our living room has been cracked for some time, and we finally worked it intot he budget to replace it. The old one was a thin aluminum frame, and the new one is a vinyl behemouth that took three of us to muscle into the rough opening the other day. It was more cost effective to replace the whole thing instead of trying to retro-fit a 25 year old windowframe....the new one has a higher "R" value, and does not transmit heat in either direction.

I finished sealing up the outside and reinstalling the outside window trim yesterday. I re-used the old trim boards since they were in good shape and recently painted. I have 2 joints to fill on the far side, because the new window is slightly larger than the old one was....but a little filler is cheaper than all new cedar trim boards...

And because I saved a bit on the outside trim, I was able to step things up a notch on the inside trim, and give Momma that nice windowsill she wanted in the front room....that's what I've been up to today...

Real life intrudes upon the internet.....what a concept!!

Congrats Chief on the new window, we did the whole house a couple years ago now. I swear that was the best home improvement project we could of done!! You will love the new vinyl ones as they don't sweat like the old ones and the
Mrs. will find they are easier to keep clean? Watch it once this one is in for a while you might want to think about the rest
of them!! Well worth it in my book!!
