Here is a recap of the recent Letters to the Editor that were written in the Patella household, and published in the columbian.

To research this subject, I went back to Early October 2007, and did a search on the word "Patella" on the columbian's website. The search cane up with 2 pages of data, but I will only list the letters they wrote, and leave the letters that were written rebutting them...

October 11, 2007 "Change from Tax and Spend"

November 8, 2007 "Cross off needed Fix First" (Nancy Patella, Author)

December 5, 2007 "Halt the Gravy Train"

January 4, 2008 "Risks are minimal"

February 5, 2008 "Light Rail is Not Needed" (Nancy Patella, Author)

March 3, 2008 "Beware Liberal Rascals"

March 8, 2008 "Light Rail is Unpopular Idea"

There are several other letters to the Editor that mention both of the Patellas, and rebutting them on something they have said in one of their letters or another.

In any case, the columbian is in violation of their own letters policy that clearly states:

Frequently asked questions about The Columbian's opinion pages

The editorial department strives to lead discussion about community issues. Readers contribute to that discussion by submitting letters for publication.

Some questions about editorial policy are asked frequently:

To reach us:

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity. Limit letters to 200 words and allow 30 days between submissions. Include name, address and daytime phone number for verification; only the name and home town will be published. Each month the editorial staff selects the Winning Wordsmith Award.

So what is the attraction to whatever it is the Patellas have to say about anything?? These two have wrought more Public and Political destruction, and sowed more bad feelings among people here in town than anyone else I know, and they have largely done it via their very own "Bully Pulpit" down at the columbian.

The sad reality though, is that Larry Patella has morphed from channeling Patick Henry thundering away in the Halls of Democracy, to Nikita Sergyeyevich Khrushchev, pounding on the poduim with his shoe.

Since the columbian is providing Larry Patella with such extensive editorial service by re-writing his missives so they are at least readable, I wonder if they shouldn't just put Patella on staff. They obviously have a backlog of every single article he has ever sent out via his "Daily Mailing List", and I hope that a few of you around here will finally let some of this sink in.

Patella is a Far-Right Extremeist. If you plotted him and his followers on the right hand side of a Bell Curve, you would find Gennie Kortez and Moveon.org on the Left hand side. They are two sides of the same political coin, balance one another, and and ought to be avoided whenever possible.

That last part is difficult to do.

The columbian successfully uses Patella as a blunt weapon against the Port of Vancouver all the time, and allows his commentary to elcipse whatever the facts are. Patella has been proven wrong repeatedly, yet they still can't wait to get his latest piece of trash onto the Opinion page.

The columbian has egg all over their faces on this one, but they are too shameless down there to care. I'm sure they already have their next slot reserved for Larry's next rant and we'll no doubt be seeing it featured prominently on the Opinion page soon...

See I'm not whacko, they are not abiding by their policies and I'm betting this is to get someone's goat?

I hear from a reliable source karma, that part of this problem is probably manpower.

They admitted to laying off 19 people directly (actually it was 18 people and Don Hamilton, but I digress...), and 30 total by not filling open positions, but what they are not discussing is the other cuts that went on, hours, maybe wages too.

The Columbian Publishing Inc. is having a rough go of it right now with the new building, and losing their major tenant for the whole second floor was not a welcome event. Advertizing revenues are down for newspapers across the Nation, and the transition to the internet has been a rough one for the whole industry...

So this may be a symptom of disorder from within, and definitely lack of any oversight. If I drove an ambulance in Vancouver for a living, I'd be awfully aware of the columbian's papparazzi out there, desperately in search of a story.

Whatever you do, don't fart on a C-Tran bus, or you'll be on the columbian's front page...

"Whatever you do, don't fart on a C-Tran bus, or you'll be on the columbian's front page..."

I don't think I have to comment any further?

Karma, why would I need to watch my political and questioning? Or did I miss the P and Q's are the wrong acronyms?

Why do I need to watch myself on C-tran.. :-) Boy their security cameras and audio gear do a find job of that all ready...

Updating...

Instead of running a retraction and admitting they made a mistake, the columbian is ignoring the FUBAR they pulled last Saturday.

In fact, if you go to their website and try to read last Saturday's Letters to the Editor, all you will get is an error message.

Cowards.

They pulled the Port of Vancouver story?

Chief, you know honestly, I have gotten so many ColdFusion/404 errors from that site since they changed to the new web server stuff, it makes me begin to wonder why there is even a newspaper up?

In the past week ALONE? got atleast 10 404/Colfusion errors. Makes me wonder if some one at their IT dept. was hired from India's finest IT companies for all the problems I see on their site..

For those who are not initiated in web speak, here is a good definition:

"Someone who's clueless. From the {World-Wide Web} message "404, URL Not Found" meaning that the document you've tried to access can't be located. "Don't bother asking him...he's 404, man". 404 is one of the standard response codes of the {telnet} {protocol} on which the web's {HTTP} is based. The first 4 indicates a client error such as a mistyped URL. The middle 0 refers to a general syntax error. The last 4 just indicates the specific error in the group of 40x, which also includes 400: Bad Request, 401: Unauthorized, etc. (2000-03-18)"

The letters for Saturday are finally visible over there, but of course there is no retraction or admission of any error. Maybe they are letting Lou do the apologising. After all, he's got lots of experience doing that, and he needs something to write about for this week's column...

How about Lou writing a retraction for the Rep. Richard Curtis story..

oh no, I forgot some one doesn't right retractions for stories like that and loves being on CNN...

Back to PoV story, honestly I hope it finally cuts them down the middle and may be some huge legal fees... Guess I'll never get my wish..
