U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd) today announced he is a candidate for reelection to a sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Baird says, “It is a tremendous honor to represent the people of Southwest Washington in Congress and I am proud of the things we have accomplished together—restoring and defending sales tax deductibility, working to strengthen the economy and protect family wage jobs, fighting for lower energy prices, supporting small businesses, combating the plague of methamphetamine and leading the effort to enhance science and vocal education.”

Baird has been particularly active in working the district. He has held more than 285 town hall meetings, visited every high school, port district, hospital in the region and has held hundreds of meetings with business, labor and community organizations.

First elected to the House of Representatives in 1998, Baird currently serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Budget Committee. He is chairman of the Research and Education subcommittee of the of the House Committee on Science and Technology.

The anti-war far left has someone running against him for the Primary, but I don't think she has a prayer...

DARN! Now I know where WSUV gets its nice funding? ;-)

Should we start asking Brian in public what he thinks about the funding of a certain road project? Love to see what he's saying about the financing..

Not sure what his election counter parts are going to win.. She is going to have aa similar punishing travel schedule that he does.

Honestly, if I'm still here after a few more months, I'd vote for him again. Too many good reasons. He's one of the few democrats I'll vote for.

Brian is going to have a rough campaign. The ant-war far-left has been meeting about this for months, and I have no doubt they will try and disrupt any Town Halls he has, so the chances of having any meaningful dialog with him about anything is slim.

He'll do a one-on-one with a reporter for the columbian and call it good.

How about trying to meet him in person while he is in Vancouver? Ever thought of that?

Yeah, I hear you about the anti-war camp.. I am hoping to at least ask a question or two before the idiots get up and start running their mouths.

I may not exactly like the war but the tactics of these people just make my cringe and anger up my cackles.

yah wiseguy, I had thought of that and that's why I put this thread up. I have no doubt that the far left here in town will take every chance they get to hammer him about the War in Iraq, and that's all. I don't plan on inflicting that on myself, in the hopes of getting an answer out of Brian Baird.

That line wasn't for you Chief.. It was for a lot of people who read this board who might not agree with the WingNutz that are planning a lot of mischief to make a point. Don't they realize this crap means nothing??

Out of may be 500 of these guys and gasl in the city of almost two hundred thousand, do I really think they'll make any dent in the election? Honestly, how many OTHER issues does the third congressional district have needs on than just one?

I'm looking at Brian who has proven he's smart, articulate and some times I do disagree with his stances. He takes time to read up and listen to community issues. But honestly, I'd like to sit down with them ALL and ask, What OTHER community issues do you have beside the war that you have?

The war is just one issue, plain and simple. If your voting him out because of one fatal flaw, I think they need to go internally and check their minds. This community has a HELL of a lot needs, Cowlitz, Lewis, Whakiakum, Pacifc, Grays Harbor (or what ever his congressional district is.) Has a hell of a lot things more pressing than a few comments and one or two votes.

He wasn't the only Democrat to vote for this war. So please MoveOn, could you MOVEon and get a life? Let us decided ourselves what our community needs instead of you coming in and babbling a bunch of BS.

I'm going to give his opponent the same courtesies as I would Brian. Want to hear every thing she has to say also.

An informed voter is the best of all worlds to help drive, thrive and move his or her community into a better future for all of her people.
