EUGENE - The only environmental activist sentenced in state court after a series of arson fires around the West could be released from prison next year.
A judge resentenced 29-year-old Jeffrey Luers today to half of his original 22-year sentence. The Oregon Supreme Court had ruled his first sentence was too long.
With credit for time served, he could be out by December 2009.
Luers was convicted of burning three SUVs at a Eugene car dealership and for trying to set fire to an oil company in 2000.
Ten other environmental activists were sentenced to much shorter terms in federal court for similar crimes.
He may be paroled, but he'll have a shadow following his activities for the foreseeable future...
We may have a verdict soon on the last of this group to stand trial...
And for the record, this asshat is not "accused" he was in fact "convicted"...
