Thought people might be interested in this. Its a Push to E-mail Opt-in subscriber system. Basically you go to the City of Vancouver website and there is a subject your interested in, click on the link and it will send you ANY updates on the subject that are about the subject.

Immediately while watching with from this weeks City Council workshop, I thought this might be of interested to all of our City of vancouver residences who might be interested in this that read Clarkblog.org.

Here is a video direct link to the particular video. It is about 20 minutes long but 15 minutes is a VERY short presentation on it. So please, all of you, take a look.

Thought I might just add this is a will not be deployed for a week or two more until a few little bugs are put to rest. But please take a look and let the City Councilors know what you think.

It's techology like this that gives us unprecedented access to our local Governement that my parents never had. I think it's great that the City is actively putting tools like this up for people to use.

Think again Chief!! I'm sorry but one needs to know Gov a little bit more and showing up to read the files is better! I don't want to be hand fed their snippets of news. Or is this their way of keeping the Public at bay as they don't want you down there??

Sorry karma, but the modern move is away from paper records and into electronic wherever possible. Sorry you don't like this either, but it's already happening....

If you look at 20 years of the Clark County GIS system, you'll see that they have been moving from paper maps into a more comprehensive system that would RIVAL most paper based mapping systems that have gone before it.

I love the idea of this new system. It means I can get access to any document or idea that the City might have on file with just an -e-mail (in case its sitting in a file room on tape backup some where.) or accessible information I've not thought of before.

Karma, all of that bounded up filing and paper you've got gathered up from all of your researching of many issues. What would it feel like if you could have it all on CD-rom or FlashRAM disk access? Would it be better if you could exchange documents or show your fellow concerned citizens all you have gathered and could make an effective presentation based on it without hauling folders and reems of paper documents?

I'm seeing a lot of positives of this new system that the City is putting in. Since its not in and there is no access just yet, I can't go for it 100 percent whole heartedly. Want to see what experience others have and/OR others might be interested with it.
