VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A Vancouver man accused of stabbing a 17-year-old girl to death inside a McDonald’s restaurant earlier this year is expected to go on trial in early January.

In court Friday, a judge ruled that David Sullivan is mentally competent to stand trial.

Sullivan’s attorneys, however, entered a plea of innocent by means of insanity.

In August, mental health experts told the judge that Sullivan is mentally competent. Mental experts at Western State Hospital in Tacoma completed a psychiatric evaluation of Sullivan, 28, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, after the court requested it during his initial arraignment.

Sullivan will stand trial for allegedly killing 17-year-old Anna Svidersky last April.
