By Jeffrey Mize, Columbian staff writer

Beginning in 30 days, all cyclists and skaters in Vancouver will have to strap on helmets or risk receiving a $50 ticket.

*SNIP*

Councilman Pat Campbell cast the sole dissenting vote.

“I think this is a totally unnecessary ordinance,” he said. “What we have now is working.”

**SCHNIPP**

What an outrageous affront to the safety of "Our Children"!

Why does Councilman Pat Campbell hate children??!!

What kind of DemocRat are you anyway, Pat??...

Now Chief, give that poor guy a break!! We see a lot of adults that should be wearing helmets on motorcycles in our own neighborhood and they aren't being caught. Don't you think the local PD has better things to do with their time then writting tickets? ; ) Don't you think they should remove all those panhandlers too? Ya know they keep making laws and can't enforce what is already on the books?? Whom is going to educate the adults first??

I agree with 100 percent with Pat Campbell and Karma! What are the odds of this?

I don't think Pat realizes this is to just placate a certain minority of constituents and will VERY rarely get enforced. How many times have you SEEN or HEARD of a Vancouver Police Department officer waste HIS or HER time witing a ticket for bike helmets or any other bicycle safety or road violation. Honestly, just just windows washing dressing...

To Karma, I like your post.. Rings sooo true..

Both of you missed my point...

What kind of Democrat is Pat Campbell, if he's voting like this??...

I thought his office was non-partisan Chief?

Yes, I do remember some of your diatribe a month ago about Pat's endorsing people..

They are supposed to be non-partisan; but PC outed himself last week with his endorsements, and i thought it might be appropriate to point out once agan, what a political chameleon Pat really is.

WB, you're absolutely right. The Vancouver PD hasn't written a single solitary ticket for bicycle helmets in the past.

BECAUSE THERE WAS NO LAW!

I'm sorry, but your statement made no sense. You can't write tickets when there's no law.

You are saying he isn't a Democrat that understands there is a need to enforce what is there first before adding to the work load? Ya know the County tried this and ya know it's not going to stop those that are stupid?? Where is the education for the need to wear first instead of the stupid passing of a law that; A) will stop those from exercising by useing their bikes and shateboards? B) can't afford them? C) is an agenda of some that need to stay in their bike lanes and not in traffic. D) stop acting like they own the whole road and cause accidents? Oh the list can go on for some of these folks??

Again this reminds me of the firing of the guns, an officier needs to see it before they can write that ticket?? What a waste of these law enforcement time when they have better things to do!! Again we need better leadership and stop this crap that we all know they won't be enforcing just like the panhandlers, of which I believe the officers tried to do also?

I am sorely tempted to lock this thread and be done with it. Let's go back to arguing about railroad trenches, shall we??

Chief, what is more important?? Writing a poor kid whom doesn't have a helmit or a bank robber whom holds up a bank with a gun and shoots someone?? Close it!!
