Alright, the Columbian has this article about the new transit mall and ridership. That's all great, but I want to know why they insisted on telling us where these people graduated high school ten years ago? Was it to prove that high school graduates ride the bus? That these people are "local" and didn't just move here from somewhere with better bus service?

Roberts, 28, an actress and 1997 Hudson’s Bay High School graduate.
Ramsay, 27, who attended Fort Vancouver High School and picked up his high school diploma at Clark College in 1998.
Why? Why do I need to know this?

Why, these are the new "Cultural Elites" that vancouver is trying to attract to the "New City" they are trying to build down on "our waterfront". Why not identify these two as culturally correct "artists"...??
It's still just a bus stop boys and girls...

Tefen, they've been reading my rants and loonacy about their being nothing for people of our age group to do in the City... And I think all of us agree, why would ANY one want to live in downtown Vancouver?
Sorry but all of those condos are not going to be for our age group that are either trying to raise families that need bigger homes than a 2 or 3 small bedroom condo. on top of the VancouverCentreOne or of the any other downtown buildings being constructed into the future. Almost all of those condos are going to go to rich, old people who have nothing to do but have huge sums to splurge living right across the water front from TWO Active Ports. Bet most of them will run over to Oregon to shop because there is no grocery stores in Downtown OR any other active stores in the downtown core than some old or wasted store fronts that have any thing of significant value to a Average citizen of our community.
Back to Tefen's question, I think the local paper is just trying to report some thing that would be decent for our age group and demographic. Honestly, I don't think the paper even has one stream in its company to show us WHAT we really want to read in that local paper. There are not many people in the 20-35 age range that want to ride a city bus that takes 1 to 2 hours each way to get to work. And that's just coming across the City of Vancouver or Clark County.

The reason we need to know that these people graduated high school ten years ago is to prove that there are long-time, educated, transit riding residents who were unable to vote the last time Light Rail was on on the ballot eleven years ago.
A lot of LRT opponents feel that they voted down light rail eleven years ago, and that should be good enough. I imagine the Columbian is trying to dispell the myth that everyone who counts now got their say then. I know I didn't get a say. I was away at college the last time LRT was on the Clark County ballot.

11 years ago, I would have just moved away from Vancouver. So I wouldn't have voted it up or down. The part your commenting on that the local paper might use to make sure the vote never happens or Cave-in continues to bring up is probably not a valid point ANY more.
How many new citizens or citizens have moved into our community over the past 10 years. If you look at all the new apartments along Mill Plain, Fourth Plain and infill over the past 10 years, I bet Tefen there is a lot of people that did not vote up or down in that election. Would love to live here AND have a say up or down whether it comes into this community.
I'd sure LOVE to here some of our newest citizen's think on this.

So let's just put it to the vote again and see what happens?

This is one thing we can ALL agree on. Lets put it up for a Vote? Let the chips fall where they may.
