BY DEAN BAKER, Columbian staff writer

CAMAS - A $57 million project that widens four miles of state Highway 14 from the west edge of Camas to Sixth Street in Washougal will feature two new traffic circle interchanges and a bridge over Union Street, two wider bridges and no stop lights.

After months of negotiations involving state and local officials, the project has been altered to better accommodate local residents and businesses. The highway plan originally had fewer access points for traffic going north and south. It has been modified to allow freer traffic movement on both sides of the freeway.

By widening it to four lanes from two, the highway is supposed to keep traffic moving and eliminate hazards that have led to many accidents, highway officials told a joint meeting of the Camas and Washougal city councils Tuesday night.

Go read the whole article for all of the details, but it sounds like there is finally agreement on what is to be done on SR 14 at last. Lots of commuters will be very happy over in Camas and Washougal.

I went via your link and off a search for Dean Bakers column. Seems there is a database error off the columbian.com site.

So I'd suggest not going today looking at the article when there is no data to look at, except a 404/database error.

Wonder what it would be like if some one had to run through that gauntlet of traffic circles and road construction?

Do you honestly think this will cut down on the accidents and the other problems of this area?

That's wierd WB...I get that same error if I go to the columbian's site and try to access this article directly...

Yes karma, I really do think this will help the problems out in that area, and so do the people who are planning this. They didn't come up with this plan in a vacume...

If it helps the Camas and Washougal people go faster to I-205 so they can reach the Portland traffic Jam faster in the morning, by all means I am for it.

There are numerous problems that need to be addressed out there, especially with the growth that Camas and Washougal have been experiencing the past few years.

I believe there has been a number of opportunities for the locals to weigh in during the planning process, and I'm pretty sure the project that is being started is what those folks wanted out there.

Chief,

If you add all the development that is going into Eastern Vancouver, Southern Orchards and West Camas areas, all of this new building will help them into a brighter future.

Can't say that is the same situation for the City of Vancouver how ever.
