SEATTLE -- A state ferry spokeswoman said there'll be no quick fix on the Bremerton ferry run.
Spokeswoman Marta Coursey said it will take a week and a half to repair the car-ferry Hyak that had an engine malfunction on Wednesday's first run.
Wednesday afternoon, the DOT announced full service would be restored on the Seattle/Bremerton route on Feb. 19 with the Walla Walla and Kitsap ferries.
One Feb. 14 there will be no 9:15 p.m. passenger-only boat, so travelers are encouraged to take the 9:05 p.m. passenger ferry or the 10:30 p.m. car ferry.
Coursey said three passenger-only ferries will fill-in on the route with the remaining car-ferry Kitsap.
The Hyak had come out of maintenance to replace the Yakima, which cracked its hull Friday on a Bremerton breakwater and is out for repair.
Transportation Secretary Paula Hammond said the ferry system is trying to minimize the inconvenience for commuters, but it has no backup boats.
There is just no end to the problems and no relief in sight for the people who rely on these ferries to bet back and forth not only to work, but for shopping as well.
Bad situation that just keeps on getting worse...
