DUI Plates

The Columbian has an opinion piece today about special license plates for DUI offenders.

In the piece they say that Oregon already has stickers for offenders. I was going to reply at their site, but app rently I don't remember my password.

As far as I can tell, Oregon does NOT have special DUI stickers for license plates. They did at one time, but then so did Washington apparently.

Seriously though, I think the whole concept is silly. Why would a new "scarlet letter" change the behavior of a potential drunk driver??

What these DUI drivers, especially the repeat offenders, need is serious jail time. That way we don't have to worry about looking out for them again, at least for a while.
