Firefighters late Wednesday were at the scene of a smouldering grain and grain-dust fire at United Harvest in the Port of Vancouver.
The Vancouver Fire Department was called about 7:05 p.m.
The fire was inside the towering building, but not in the elevators or the storage hoppers, said Firefighter-paramedic Sam Harrison.
About 10:40 p.m., Harrison said company and port officials and firefighters were still evaluating the fire and deciding how to proceed safely.
One danger: Putting water on the burning material might knock glowing embers down onto other flammable areas, or even spark a grain-dust explosion.
It’s also difficult to move hose lines to the burning area, Harrison said.
No injuries had been reported. A ship tied to the dock wasn’t loading and hadn’t been affected by the fire.

Let's see if the Port issues a press release about this.
