The Olympian
Republican candidate for governor Dino Rossi sharply criticized Gov. Chris Gregoire’s record on housing and growth-management issues today in pointed remarks at an Olympia gathering of nearly 300 Washington Realtors.
Rossi, a former realty agent who narrowly lost the governor’s race four years ago, was back in front of a friendly crowd that endorsed him last time around. He said Gregoire had convened a task force on housing and land-use issues in 2006, but “not a single one” of its 150 ideas or recommendations was sent to the Legislature, proving someone else needs to be in Olympia making key decisions.
“It’s a lot easier to get the right person elected than to get the wrong person to do the right thing,” Rossi said.
Rossi also evoked memories of Gregoire’s 129-vote victory margin in 2004 that he challenged in court, only to lose the race in the end by 133 votes. “Everyone knows 129 people, right?” he asked.
Although Realtors PAC endorsed Rossi in 2004, that’s not an automatic again in 2008 — and Gregoire will address the group Thursday, according Sam Pace, a Kent-based realty agent who chairs the 2,500-member professional organization’s legislative steering group and has a hand in the PAC.
