Art show featuring farms opens tonight at museum
Light refreshments will be served tonight at the opening of a Clark County Historical Museum exhibit honoring the American farm and the farmers of Clark County.
The free event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the museum, 1511 Main St.
"The Sustaining Change on the American Farm: An Artist/Farmer Exchange" will be on display at the museum through April 30. It is a combination of a traveling exhibit from the Maryhill Museum of Art, local artists' work and museum artifacts from Clark County's agricultural history.
The Maryhill Museum of Art artists were paired with 12 farms in Oregon, Washington and Idaho and spent time learning about challenges farmers face. The art shows what farmers do to conserve natural resources and heritage while growing food and fiber.
The Clark County Historical Museum worked with Erin Harwood and Doug Stienbarger of Washington State University Clark County Extension to customize the exhibit to include an interpretation on Clark County farms.
A video presentation entitled, "For the Love of Farming" was created by museum volunteers Mary Grgich and Crystine Jividen and is incorporated into the exhibition. Eleven Clark County farmers were interviewed for the video.
